Over 6000 thousand people gathered today in the Union Square in Cluj-Napoca to protest against the Rosia Montana exploitation project.

The project for exploiting Rosia Montana was approved by the Romanian government. The Canadian gold mine project will use 12.000 tones of cyanide a year in the leaching process, 12 times the amount used for mining gold in the whole Europe according to 2011 figures.
Four mountains that surround the village will be partially destroyed and the Roman galleries which are unique in Europe will be damaged in the process.
